HOW WE DESCRIBE AND MEASURE SPEEDS
- "Up to" is the maximum speed your plan is provisioned for. You'll often see close to it, but it isn't promised at every moment.
- "Minimum" is the lowest download and upload speed an AirFibre plan is designed to deliver. We measure it with a computer plugged into the Rural Net equipment in your home by cable. Wi-Fi speeds are usually lower and depend on your router, walls and devices.
- Saver and Saver+ are best-effort plans without a published minimum.
- What can affect speed: severe weather, scheduled maintenance, equipment faults, and trees or new buildings that block line of sight to the tower.
If your wired speed stays below your plan's minimum, call 1 (855) 557-8725. Tech support is free during business hours, and we'll investigate and work to restore your plan's speed.
WHICH TYPE OF INTERNET FITS A RURAL ADDRESS?
The honest answer depends on what's actually available where you live:
- Fibre to the home usually offers the highest speeds and lowest latency. If it's available at your address and suits your budget, it's a strong choice, and we'll tell you so.
- Fixed wireless (Rural Net) connects your home by radio to a local tower. It works where fibre and cable haven't been built, has low latency compared with satellite, and does not need a buried line to your property. Performance depends on line of sight to the tower.
- Satellite is available almost anywhere. Latency, weather sensitivity and equipment cost vary by provider, so compare current plans directly.
- Cellular home internet depends on mobile signal strength at your address, which can be limited in parts of Grey and Dufferin.
